Theatre P.E.I is pleased to announce its new fall-winter subscription season. The opening production of this Three-Play Package, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, will be presented Wednesday through Sunday, October 4-8, 19895, at Le Carrefour Theatre , off Riverside Drive, Charlottetown. Rob MacLean, Theatre P.E.I’s new associate artistic director, will direct this production. Curtain time is 8 p.m. for the evening performances, and 2 p.m. for the Sunday matinee.

The Glass Menagerie, a Tennessee Williams classic set in the Depression years, burns with the slow fires of desperation: This is the story of the Wingfields: Laura, more crippled in spirit than body; Amanda, who clings to faded fantasies of southern nobility; and Tom, who must choose between his family and his freedom.

The strong cast features Carol Sinclair, Melissa Mullen, Rob MacDonald and Crair

THEATRE P.E.I.'S 1995-96 SEASON OPENS WITH "THE GLASS MENAGERIE"

Blair. Carol Sinclair, acclaimed actress and playwright, now makes her home in Halifax.

She and Ms. Mullen were featured in last season’s Neptune Theatre production of Dancing in Laghnasa. Rob MacDonald is well known to Island audiences, having just completed his fifth season with Annekenstein. Craig Blair was lauded this past summer for his performance in the provocative Drinking in America at the Arts Guild.

The next two productions in the season are The Island Remembers (November 10-12, 19095)’ featuring The Venerables, Wade Lynch and a strong supporting cast, and La Saguine (in English) featuring veteran actress Viola Leger

* (January 31 - February 4, 1996). All productions

will take place at Le Carrefour Theatre.

Better than Siskel and Ebert, those two clowns who can’t agree on even a GOOD film, this is MY weekly movie review column. I shall also include hot video rentals, and must-sees.

First off for this week, the return of Braveheart (6 stars).

Yes, you lovers of Mel Gibson, he’s back. Terror from Scotland, William Wallace is Braveheart. In this compelling movie, which includes breath-taking shots of Scotland and Ireland countryside, Wallace has returned to his home after years abroad with his uncle. His father and brother were killed when he was young by Edward of Longshanks, King of England, but Wallace returns to raise a family and live in piece. Right. Whoever heard of Gibson living without at least a gun?

Well, Wallace finds his love, Murron, and they wed in secret. When some English guards attempt to rape her, Wallace comes to her rescue. As they attempt to flee, Murron is captured, while Wallace runs. She is killed by the commander of the English garrison.

When Wallace finds out, all hell bre: loose. Small attacks lead to big raids, and ra lead to great battles. Scotland rises to fight i tyranny of Longshanks, with Wallace in the { of it all.

It’s back in theatres now, with only 0 showing a night, starting at 7:30. A must-se all fans of Mel Gibson, and believers in love freedom. And you get to see Mel’s butt, if can tell it from about a thousand other moon
