aged 66 years. The deceased was well and favorably known in Prince County, and always bore the feharacter for henesty,

aaa undersigned having been appointed, by the Governer General in Corncil, In- spector of Leather and of Raw Hides for the Divtsion of Charlottetown, which comprises the whole of Prince Edward Island, notice is hereby given that on and after this date I will be prepared to examine and inspect all Raw Hides and Leather, at the Shop formerly eccupied by David Wilson, Esq., Richmond Street, opposite London House.

Special attention is called to the 96th and 7th section of the General Inspection Act 1874,” which are as follows :—

96. The Inspection of Raw Hides shall be compulsory at every place where an Inspec- tor or Deputy Inspector has has been appoint- ed; and every Raw Hide sold, offered for sale or exported, offered for expoit or laden in any vehicle or vessel for the purpose of being ex- ported, and which has not been first in- spected and stamppd or marked as herein re- quired, shall be forfeited; and the person so selling or offering for sale or exporting the same, shall incur a penalty of one dollar for every Hide so sold, offerod for sale, or ex- ported.

97. The expression “Raw Hides” shall mean and include all untanned or uncarried skins commonly used in the manufacture of Leather.

The appointment of Hen. James Cock- burn as Commissioner to codify Dominion statutes is gazeited.

The Canada Temperance Act is pro- claimed in force in the County of Hants.

The deposits in the Post Office Savings Bank for October amounted te $550,880 and withdrawals $239,670. ‘The balance at the credit of depositors on Oct. 3lst was $7.196,373.

The total value of goods exported from the Dominion during October was $13,628, - 513, of which $13,163,831 was the produce of Canada.

Notice is given of intended applications to Parliament, for acts of incerporation for the Manitoba Bank, the Northwestern Bank, the St. Croix Bridge Company, the Dominion Fire and Marine Insurance Com- pany, Grand Central Station Company, Canada Provident Association, Ontario and Quebec Railway Company, and the Ottawa, Waddington and New York Railway Com- pany.

A general order is published to the effect that in the event of a suflicient number of officera of infantry not coming forward for admission toa school of military instruc- tion, permission is given to oflicers ef in- fantry corps to make up the number to which a school is limited.

The Canada Pacific Railway land grant five per cent, bonds have been placed on the market for sale by the Bank of Men- treal at par.

Proceedings at the forthcoming Assizes are anticipated with extraordinary interest. It is reported the Crown Council has been instructed to put forward early all cases of Agrarian crime in which evidence is per- fectly clear, and that in the event of ac- quittals or disagreements in those cases, the Crown Counse! are to apply for adjourn- ment of Assizes, pending legislation, which would take the form of appointinent of a tribunal, consisting of the Chairman of Quarter Sessions and three Stipendiary Magistrates, with full power to try summar- ily all offences except murder.

Vienna, Nov. 27. Colliers in Ostran coal mines, belonging to the Northern Railway, the largest mines in Austria, are on a strike. At last ac- counts the strike was becoming serious, Twelve hundred men have already struck. It is feared the miners of large neighboring pits will join them.

Lonpon, Noy. 27. A heavy gale prevaled thoughout the United Kingdom on Saturday snd Sunday, doing serious damage to property. Wrecks occured on varieus parts of the coast.

Lonpon, Nov. 27. It is stated Lefroy has fully confessed to the murder of Gold alse of Lieut. Roper— murdered in Chatham Barracks some time ago.
