A recent news item had it that a group of teachers on Prince Edward Island have gone on record as in favor of being paid in twelve monthly installments. instead of too. as at present. This would mean. we presume. that teachers would be paid only five-slxths of their annual salary by the end of June. and would get the gum- slxth in two equal installments at the end of July and of August. As a fellow teacher. we'd like to propose an alternative scheme. Say a teacher is now getting 8100 per month front the government. Under this new pi posed method of payment they would get roughly

Marian Academy Alumncie Meet

The twenty-first annual meet-

ing of the Miscouche Marian Acad- emy Alumnae was held in the parish hall on Sunday September 4th.. Sister Directress S. 5. Mary Sextus and the President Mrs. Jerry Richard presided. After the pening prayer. the roll call was taken of the officers and paid up members. The treasurers report showed that the sum of 314411 had been paid out during the year, in various good works and that there was a balance of S4532 left to the credit.

Chief among these were the buying of lights for the Grotto. donations to a college stu- dent. several Masses said for the living and deceased bars. the celebration of Mary's Day also a banquet to honor the graduates of 1955. Sister Directress read a let- ter from the Vigilance Convenor. Mary J. Chisholm of Antigonish regarding obscene literature and comics. The meeting voted in favor of buying leaflets regarding this subject to distribute to the school children.

On Friday evening August 26th. 4 the Freetown. C.G.1.T. Group pre rented a concert of Sacred Music in Freetown United Church. Miss Shirley Jardine acted as leader and a very interesting programme was carried out. Mrs. Lois Cairns was organist for the proceedings which opened with a sing song led by the girls and heartily en- tered into by the large number present.

David Mallet. two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mallett. met with a painful accident on Tues- day when he fell in his home breaking a leg. He was taken to Prince County Hospital where he was made as comfortable as pos- sible and all hope that he will soon be fully recovered.

The paving of the Freetown road leading from the village to Stewart Burns' corner is nearing comple- tion. This constitutes about two. and one half miles and is cer-l tainly a great asset to people in that area. All are hoping that be- fore long the remaining one and- one half miles will also be paved Borden highway.
