As the last notes of God Save th Queen died away, Santa Claus appeared on the scene, heavily Jaden with hampers and baskets of gool things for the little ones. His appeararce was the sensation of the day. ’ Remarks were male by the Rev. Mr. Corey, Mr. Macdonald of Pine Hill, Halifax, Mr. T. C. James and Mr. W. L. Cotton, and the wishes of the season conveyed to the ¢ hildren.

This forenoon, William Mahar, fourteen of age, appeared charged with mother’s household

years smashing up his furniture with an axe, throwing knives and forks at her. For the first-mentioned offence he was fined $10 or 30 days imprisdiment, and the | second charge stands over for judgment. In sentencing Mahar, His Honor gave him some salutary advice which it is hoped will have a beneficial effect.

The charge against D. O’M. Reddin, jr.. of selling intoxicants without a prescrip- | tion in a room wherein were exposed other articles than those allowed by law, was adjourned till Thursday, 28th inat., for judgment. Four witnesses were examined. One swore he did not get any liquor he- tween the dates; and another that he went into the store to pay his bill, and while there Mr. Reddin asked him to havea glass of wine, which he accepted. | Another witness swore that he invited ; a friend in with him on the 16th inst., to havea drink, and bought and paid for it,

| giving the money to one of the clerks after |

This wit- ness also stated that he had a medical cer- tificate on the 2nd September, authorizing him to buy three pints of whiskey ; also that he had been verbally told by his medical aiviser that he could get any liqnor he wanted there, and he censidered when he bonght and paid for the drink on

Stricken Blind, Deaf and Damb After an Outburst of Profanity.
