Just now a very forcible canvass is be- ing indulged in here by Hon. Senator Scott and others, who charge that P. E [s'and has been openly bribed with branch railways, tupne's, &c. So fine and fixed is this charge that the senator has under- taken to inform the Ottawa citizens the particular sum they will be called on to contribute to the Island undertakings.

There is much speculation here as to what the majority will be for the Govern- ment. Some have it 20, more say 30, while others claim 40 above all comers.

The death of the Very Rev. Mon. Car- mody, of St. Patrick’s Church, Halifax, took place on Thursday, after a lingering illness. He bad been a priest for fifty- nine years. His funeral took place to-day. Mr. John Stewart. formeciy of this pro- vince but now of Denver, Col, is visiting relatives and friends here. Mr. Stewart is in the employ of the Burlington Railway. He is a brother of Mr. James Stewart, of Siewart & Gates.
