Letter to the Editor

Dear Ed.

I am writing in response to a letter to the editor which appeared in the Feb. 6, 2002 issue of The Cadre.

I believe that if ‘anonymous’, and I quote, “has any balls”, then he or she would have signed their name to their opinion, thereby eliminating the hypocrisy from their comments. And if he or she had refrained from low brow comments concerning Mr. Lloyd’s sex- ual practices and his choice of televi- sion programs, their point would be better taken.

Although I do not agree with the language used by Mr. Lloyd to express his opinion on the lack of park- ing ability among UPEI students and staff, he does have a valid point. I am a student at UPEI and I do not like to walk long distances to class from my vehicle either, but I always park in designated spaces only, and get extremely frustrated when an ignorant and obviously self absorbed person parks at the end of the rows in the park- inglot behind the Steele building, and forces everyone who drives to the front of the lot to reverse-all the way back to access the rest of the lot. I know the lack of parking spaces is an issue, but I do not believe that gives people the

right to park wherever they feel like.

And in addition, I wish every- one would slow down just a bit in the parking lots, especially when going around corners which are made nar- rower by people parking in the road- way at the end of the rows. It can be a dangerous venture to attempt to find a spot when you have a large number of vehicles hurtling across an icy surface, all in search of that elusive parking spot. Is that spot worth a smashed car? And with all the talk of obesity in our society, would it really hurt to walk a little ways to class, wear a hat and gloves if you’re cold, or would that mess up your hair? I personally do not park in the lot behind Steele during high traffic times, for fear of some absent minded driver smashing my car. I am not sure of the insurance policy involving UPEI parking lots, but if it is like a mall parking lot, it’s 50/50, no matter who is at fault.

Well, that’s my two cents worth.
