Dairy "cattle for" exiport R9 still in keen demand and very difficult to secure. "It is interesting to note, the report states "that "in 1048 we shipped upwards of 2,500 of of the best of our dairy cattle to the export market while our ex- ports of, live beef and tnixed lots were around 3.500 to 3.600. Dairy- ing is suffering a severe blowas a result of this exodus. Not only are the cattlethemselves, which would involvn a butter production of up- wards of one million pounds if re- tained, lost to the Province. but

are also lost. However, with prices as they are we cannot criticise

farmers for selling them. With beef prices as favourable as they are. it is an exceedingly good time for farmers to weed‘ out the poorer cattle in their herds and maintain their best as the foundation of an improved herd.

Feeds

The feed market is fluctuating up and down a bit but there is not much change in the situation. The grain trade is moving within nar- row limitations. By carload lots feed oats raises from 265 to 2S0 accord- ing to grade per hundred. Bran is around 0200-2370 with shorts and middlings from 2230-285. Feed wheat is selling around $3.05 per cwt. for No. 5 grade. Coo-n is pretty well off the market and oiimeal is becoming a little more easily ob- tained at $4.25 per cwt. retell. Deal- em are awaiting developments and are not laying in any large supplies of feed at the present time. As a matter cd fact the whole situation seems a bit jitter;

Just what is going to happen in the grain trade it is difficult to state. It depends a good deal on sx- port orders. The seed oat trade is also a little bit hard to analyze at present. Dealers are not included to lay in any large quantities of imported oats. Personally I feel that than; will be quite a business carried on in the oat trade on a farmer to farmer basis. There should be large quantities of grain available on the farmns of Prince Edward Island. This is also true of barley. The supply on the farm should be adequate. ‘Ihoee who need seed grain should make their arrangements early and deal with the trade wherever it may exist for grain only that has good gonn- i-nation and. is free from weeds.

The potato msrketstili contin- ues weak and sluggish, although there are quite substantial quantit- ies of potatoes, particularly seed. moving. For instance. on the week ending February 19th, there were 111 cars of seed shipped. In the previous week 12$ ears were shi ed, and in the week boforo that l cars. In tablestock however, the prices offered now hardly justify movement. As a matter of fact in most eases 75c-00. per bag for a-‘lb lb. bag is the prevailing price. This only amounts to 04c per bushel at best or so below the support price on the farm. 1t is ‘not hard to give sdvioein a case of this kind. and that is to let the potatoes rest un- til the price improves on fabiestod:
