A CENTENARIAN Gene. —-hoemng ap exchange there died at Ductor's rook, Antigonish County, N. S., on Feb. 4th, a woman who had attained the remarkable age of 103. She was Catherine Campbell, sister of Donsld Campbell, of that place. The deceased was a native of Invernesshire, Scotland, and came to this country at an early age with her father, John Chmpbell, who was the first settler at Doctor's Brook Fotwithstanding her great age she retained full control of her faculties up to within two days of her death, sitaewicil

PRIVATION AND SUFFERING.—Stories of most terrible privation and suffering, due to the re cent cold weather, come from the colony of Russians at Chesterfield, Conn., who sre de serting their little farms by scores. About 16 months ago the colony was established, over 40) Russian families settling on small farms During last sammer they did bat little work and in the fall their crops were poor. The suffering among the colonists has been very great, Numerous deaths have occurred, due lely to hunger and eid, and those who are left have began to leave in large numbers. Pouce Covrr.—This morning the case of Lizzie Smith vs. Michael Hennessey, (truckman) for assault and battery, was before the Court. The plaintiff, who tends bar ina saloon on Richmond Street, tes tified that on Wednesday last, Hennessey and three others came into her place and called for drinks, exch taking « glass of brandy. The three who came in with Hennessey left the pr mises after their dnnk, leaving Hennessey behind. Miss Smith asked him to pay forthe treat and he said he would not. Thinshe told him to go wut, but he declined to do so ilen- hessey's answers aroused Miss Smith's ire, and she picked up « broom and struck him with the handle. Hennessey gallantly re taliated Ly striking her on the side of the head with a tumbler, stunning her. After hearing the evidence of the complainant the case was adjourned until Monday.

The World's Fair.

Sin,—In a recent issue of Tax Examiner there appeared, among other notes fro. Ottawa, the statement that Messrs. McLean and A. C. Macdonald were busily occupied visiting the different public departments in the interests of their constituents, with special reference to the fishery interests. Chis is satisfactory, and shows that our represestatives are anxious to do all in their power to rectify existing grievances. In the meantime it is hoped that our Senators as well as representatives in the Commons will bear in mind the fact that even-handed justice has not been done to this Province by the Dominion authorities touching the World’s Fair. Apart from the action taken by the Pro- vincial Governmen: in the way of selecting and preparing exhibita for the Chicago exhibition, the Dominion authorities, have appointed special commissioners for Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to secure exhibits in their respective provinces. But no such special privilege has been extended to P. E. Island. Way this discrimination against this Province? Why not favor our people with the same representation touch- hing exhibita to the World’s Fair, as is extended to the other Maritime Provinces ? An enquiry into this matter by our Ottawa representatives, at the Agricultural Depart- ment would be in order. EXHIBITOR. seniaincenniricinemensi Query. A person who seeks to gain his argu- ment by such gross misrepresentations ought not to he allowed to take part in any discus- sicn, ‘*Methodist” is too conscious that the Union Evangelical meetings are a step in the right direction to let the misleading remarks of such praters as “Church Goer” and ‘‘Anti- Bunkum”’ disturb him.
