Boomise Summer Travet—The Canadian Pacific Railway is making preparations for the summer travel, which the officials say will be the biggest on record trom present indications, Seven sleepers have been sent through to Vancouver for the passengers from the Empress of India. Two monsier excur- sion are already being arranged for parties of American tourists over the whole line to the Pacific. These take place in June and are to be followed by smaller parties later on in the season,

EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES.

The bakers here have advanced the price of bread to eight cents per loaf.

For the first time in thirty years the em- ployes in Parks Cotton Mill were not paid their wages on Saturday. Both the St. John cotton mills are in the hands of a re- cviver, and it is said that the Canadian Cotton Mill Combine 1s determined to shut them up, as under Judge Palmer's manage- ment they have been proving formidable competitors. As the Judge ordered the re- ceiver to pay the wages, there promises to be sume lively scenes in Equity Court this week. The hands go to work to-day as usual.
