WINTER IN PROVINCIAL PARKS

Provincial Parks may look closed for the season, but they are really providing you with an opportunity to visit the park without any competition. Three parks (Mill River, Brudenell and Brookvale) provide active programs for the visitors.

At these three parks there are groomed cross country ski trails. At Brookvale there is also downhill skiing (with tows) and toboggans are available for rent or bring your own toboggan and join others in an afternoon of fun at no cost. At Brudenell River, there is also a good hill.

The other parks are closed only in the sense that there are no staff on duty. This should not stop you from visiting one of the parks for day use activities. Why not brush the snow from one of the park barbeques and get the whole family out for a weiner roast/picnic.

Extra care in what you do should be a high priority. There is no park official

on hand to help you. If you recognize a problem in or about the park, we would appreciate receiving a call from you so that no further incidents will take place. Take care when parking your vehicle. The parks without staff will not have any snow removal done. Choose a place to park that will not be hazardous to you or other on coming vehicles. It is always wise to carry emergency equipment in the car during winter months. A blanket or two, first aid supplies, extra clothing and a thermos of hot coffee, tea or maybe tang will be very rewarding in the event of a mishap.
