The unusual spectacle of a woman im- prisoned for debt is seen in Bangor, Me., at present, for the first time in many years. Thomas C. Stevens, a lawyer at Newport, had a lady client with whom he failed to settle, and therefore took out an execution and imprisoned her in Bangor jail, putting up cash for several weeks’ board for her. The woman is a widow, comes from Etna, and declares she is being wronged and swindled, and will live in her present abode for years if necessary rather than pay more.

It takes thought and time to prepare those savory dishes which are so desirable at this season, but it pays to give the thought and time. To the} worker—and we are almost all workers—it makes considerable difference all day long whether a right start is made in the morning. The man or woman who begins the day with a hot, well-cooked, simple breakfast will get throvgh his or her work in a hundred per cent. better condition than he or she who has a por meal. As the heaviest part of the daily work usually comes between breakfast and the mid-day meal, all housekeepers should do their part to make the battle of life easy by providing proper ffood for the morning meal.—Good Housekeeping.
