FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A
FAMILY PHYSIC.
Tuere has leng existed a public demand for an effective purgative pill which could be relied on as sure and perfectly safe in its operation. This has been prepared to meet that demand, and an exten- sive trial of its virtues has conclusively shown with what success it accomplishes the purpose designed. It 1s easy to maxe a physical pi//, but not easy te znake the best of all pills — one which should have none cf the cbjections, but all the advantages, of every other. This has been attempted here, and with what suecess we would respectfully submit to the pubtic decision. It has been unfortunate for the patient hitherto that almost every purgative medicine js acrimonious and irritating to the bow- els. This is not. Many ef them produce so much griping pain and revulsion in the system as to more than counterbalance the good to be derived from them. These pilis produce no irritation or pain, unless it arise from a previously existing obstruc- tion or derangement in the bowels. Being purely vegetable, no harm can arise from their use in any quantity ; but it is better that any medicine should be taken judiciously. Minute directions for their nse in the several diseases to which they are ap- plicable are given on the box. Among the com plaints which have been speedily cured by them, we may mention Liver Complaint, in its various forms of Jaundive, Indigestion, Languor and Loss of Ap-
etite, Listlessness, Irritability, Bilious Headache,
ilious Fever, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side and Loins; for, in truth, all these are but the con- sequence of diseased action in the liver. As an aperieut, they afford prompt and sure relief in Cos- tiveness. Piles, Colic, Dysentery, Humors, Scrof- wla and Scurvy, Colds with soreness of the body, Ulcers and impurity of, the blood; in short, any and every case where a Purgative is required.
They have also produced some singularly sue- cessful cures in Rheumatisin, Gout, Dropsy, Gravel, Erysipelas, Palpitation of the Heart, Pains in the Back, Stomach, and Side. They should be freel taken in the spring of the year, to purify the bl end prepare the system for the change of seasons. An occasional dose stimulates the stomach and powels into healthy action, and restores the appe- tite and vigor. They purify the blood, and, by their stimulant action on the circulatory system, reno- vate the strength of the body, and restore the wasted or diseased energies of the whole organism. Hence an occasional dose is advantageous, even though no serious derangement exists; but un necessary dosing should never be carried too far, as every purgative medicine reduces the strength, when taken to excess. The thousand cases in which a physic is required cannot be enumerated here, but they suggest themselves to the reason of every body; and it is confidently believed this pill will answer a better purpose than any thing which has hitherto been available to mankind. When their virtues are once known, the public will no page doubt what remedy to employ when in need of a cathartic medicine.

A a time, like the present, when there appears to be a kind & of epidemic alfecung tae citizens, as well asthe Island veneraily, in the shape of a kind of Cold or Influenza, ac- companied, in most eases, with a severe Cough, I think ita duty which | owe to the public to make known to them an article that will entirely remove this malady. Dr. Johnson’s Anodyne Liniment is,in my opinion, one of the very best! articles to cure a Cough that ever came to this Isiand, This ts no quack preparation, but one meeting the approbation of the Medical Profession, the most eminent of whom bear willing testimony to its wonderfal efficacy. The inventor of this Linin.eat was in the practice of Medicine for nearly twenty years, and perfected it from year to year im hes practice, Vaken internal'y, itis a safe and effectual cure for Inflamma- tion of the Bronctiia or Bronchitis, Rose Cold, Hard Dry Cough, Whooping Cough, Hoarseness and Common Cold, Pain and Soreness in the Lungs, Stomach and Sides, cansed by lifting or otherwise; Asthma and Influenza; for Sore Throats and Weak Langs. Externally it will have the most happy effects in all cases where any o'ber Liniment would be used, especially for Rheumatie Affections, Suff Joints, Chilblains, Chapped Hands and Sore Lips. [am not in the habit of puffing up, on my own account, any patent Medicine—although [ sell ail kinds—but am induced to bring this article before the public from a pure motive. | know it to cure, within these last ten days, several persons of very bad Coughs, when all other remedies failed. I have seen persons suffering from the Asthma relieved by this Medicine in a few minutes. [tis not generally known that it is used internally, as most al! Liniments are applied externally ; this will account for my remarks regarding it.
