An Ottawa despatch says ; Speaking of the beneficial results of the Jamaica Exhi- bition wpon Canada’s export trade, Mr. Adam Brown, who is here, mentioned the fact as related in a letter recently received from Halifax, that this summer 26,000 bar- rela of Canadian flour were carried to the West Indies by the Pickford & Black line of steamers alone. Canadian flour was first introduced to the West Indies through Mr, Brown's agency at the Jamaica Exhibition.

- The cable makes Sir John Lubbock say in his speech before the London Chamber of Commerce that Canadian exports were in 4 condition of commercial paralysis that couid not be indefinitely prolonged. In this connec tion the Montreal Gazette points out that Canada's exports for the first two months of the current fiscal year were almost twenty -s:x million dol , #0 increase of over four millions dollars over the record for the same y That recordis in keeping with the story of the fiscal year 189! 92, and the indications are that it will continue til! the end of 1892 Sir John evidently got hold of the wrong set of figures. P., showed that while the United States took $2 of England's manufactured goods per annum of the population, Canada took $8; while Austria took 16 cents per head, the West Indies took $11.65; while Russia took SL cents per heed, the Cape took $23: while lraly took $1 35, New Zealand tock $26, while Germany took $2.06 per head, Victoria took $31; and while France took $2.16 per per head, New South Wales took $3150. As the Halifax Herald points out, the Wiman scheme would reduce England's exports to Canada

—The Farmer's Review, speaking of the potato crop in the United S‘ates, says ; The potato crop, early and late, taken to- gether is very poor. In Lilinois 90 per cent. of the correspondents report that the crop is very poor, in many cases almost a complete failure. A nearly similar state of atfairs exists in Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, [owa and Wisconsin. In Ohio and Michigan the crops are slightly better, about two-thirds of the counties reporting from a three-fourths to a full crop. Ken- tucky reports a full average crop in about | half the counties. In Minnesota about | oue-third of the counties will yield an aver- age crop, but in most of the othera it is de- eidedly poor. More than half of the cor- respondents in Dakota report a full crop.

Foorsat, —The Wanderers were clearly outplayed at Halifaxon the 29th by the Dalhousie football team, in the fourth game of the trophy series. The college met the red and blacks at every point, and came off victorious by 7 points tu 0. The game was 4 fiercely contested one, but, except in the latter part of the first half, the Wan- derers were on the defensive. The scoring consisted of a try, made ten minutes alter play began, which Gurdon promptly con- verted into a goal. Wil- liam Hamlyn presided, and made a_ brief address explanatory of the workings«1 the institution and the strong claim it had upon the people of this Province. Four pupils of the institution were then introluced by Mr. Fearon, and gave a practical idea of the character of the instruction impsrted in the institution. Owing to the smal at- tendance at the meeting last night it was decided to adjourn until Monday evening next at the sama hour when the exercises will be repeated and a collection will be taken up for the benefit of the instit ution
