This Party pmposes to go much fur- ther as you will see when you read our Platform. The farmers are de- serving of more assistance and their existence as a profession is now seriously jeopardized.

On the other hand, the Govern- ment's own record in farming is a most deplorable one. In 193B, Messrs. Jones, Barbour, W. F. A. Stewart. William Hughes and JA. Campbell were loud in their de- nunciation of the management of Faiconwood Par-m. Hon. Mr. Bar- bour was the most specific in his criticism. He declared on the floor of the House that $20,000 could be saved in the management of Fal- conwood. Those gentlemen were then back benchers under the Campbell regime; this was in 1938. in that year the expenditure on Falconwood was $132,669. In 1946. those same gentlemen are the chief members of the Government —Premier, Minister of Public Works, Minister of. Agriculture. and Provincial Treasurer —and last year they spent on Falconwood $203,799, —jusi: $81,000 more than the expenditure they strongly criti- cized in 1938.

Parliament were in agreement that it was not enough, and Pre- mier Drew of Ontario has had his Government increase Old Age Pen- sions to $35.00 a month, doing this Provincially. Old people are asking about their $5.00 a month increase going back to April. now amount- ing to six month's increase or $30. each. The suggestion is quite cur- rent now that this increase ls being held in this Province to be paid on the eve of the Provincial election. _

It is my firm conviction that in the Maritime Provinces we could make good progress by the three Maritime Premiers working together and presenting an united front. I know this can be done because it was done in 1933-1935 by Hon. A. L. Macdonald, Prem- ier of Nova. scotla, Hon. L. Til- ley, Premier of New Brunswick, and myself as Premier of Prince Edward Island. This cooperation and united effort by Maritime Premiers is not in evidence today and we are suffering in the Mari- Limes as a result.

Further, ,and I 11m sorry to say, I have been given to understand that the fault is largely due to our own Premier Jones who does not work in cooperation with the Premiers oi Nova. Scotla and New Brunswick. This ls regrettable be- cause we all stiffer, and any pub- lic man is foolish who does not beiievepln cooperation and practice it, because no Premier can play a lone hand and make a success for his own Province.
