Mrs. Peter Toole, South Melville, P.E.I., received the sad news last week of the unexpected death at Washington. D.C. of her sister. lirﬂs. Thomas (J. McDonald.

Mrs. McDonald was horn 3i: South Melville. P. E. 1., in i817 and was a daurzhter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Malone.

In her early youth she moved to Boston and later to New York In 192s she moved with nei- fam- llv to Washington, D.C.

While in New York she became a charter member of ‘the Catholic Daughters of America. In Wash- ington she was an active member of the Daughters of the British Evnoire.

Ickes gradually got more of the money for his program, while the Hopkins’ lun was tapered off. But the w ole thing was settled amicably when the pair took a long fishing trip through the Everglades in 103 Ickes’ program is still running.

Roosevelt's first Budget Direc- tor. Lewis Douglas, became one of Ickes‘ first vict..ms in an adminis- tration scrap. Douglas had pen- suaded Roosevei-t to give him the_ rl ht to veto emergency funds.
