On the legislatures mainly depends whether the railway is now to be constructed or not. ‘There is neither in the Provinces, nor, we apprehend, in Maine, much spare capital that can, with advantage, be diverted from its present channels to be absorbed by this great undertaking. : If} the publie credit is pledged, and amply sufficient securities: are given to the capitalists of the United States and of England, they will be glad to invest their capital ; money . will flow into these Provinces, and the population will rapidly increase ; along the line of railway towns will spring up as if by magic, and farms will be tilled, and thus the railway will create a business for itself. And should the Colonies eventually have to pay the entire sum they borrow, still they will not have paid too highly fur what they will have gained.—St. John Freeman.
