—The election in Burin, Nfll, has re- sulted in the return of Sir James Winter by 500 majority. There is great rejoicing all over the colony at the result. Sir James is one of the leading Confedera’ ion- ists.

—The Empire: Mr. Chamberlain is hardly right in saying that trade is as bad in protectiosist countries as it is in Eng land. Canada is increased hers $20,- 000,000 in two years; Britain has decreased hers $100,000,000 in the same period.
