The Island Nature Trust has appointed a panel to judge the nomina- tions for its second Natural Areas Award. Judges will be Wendell Profitt, Barb MacDonald, Doug Deacon and Brian McKenna.
Nominations for the award close on April 30, 1989. Any individual, group or agency which has made a significant contribution to natural area protection on the Island are eligible for nomination.
Many organizations and individuals have laboured unheralded for years to ensure that natural areas remain in Prince Edward Islasnd as representatives of our antural heritage. These areas are valuable for native plants and animal species and are a part of the Island fabric.
Potential recipients are persons who have established natural areas, who have done research in natural areas, who have successfully lobbied for government action, or who are pioneers of legislation. Additionally, eprsons who have raised public awareness of natural areas are potential award winners.

The Island Nature Trust was one of ten recipients of a National Heritage Award presented in Ottawa by the Hon. Lucien Bouchard, Minister of the Environment on Heritage Day, Feb. 20. The awards are to publically recognize individuals and groups and honour their achievements in natur- al and cultural heritage conservation. The Heritage Award is the greatest recognition the Government of Canada can give to a person or group making such a contribution. Barb MacDonald and Doug Deacon, the President and Vice-President of the Trust, travelled to Ottawa to receive the award.
