Astray 1n 4 Dory.—The schooner A ber- deen from Portiand, Me., bound to P. E. Island, put into Liverpool, N. S , on Mon- day night to land Edward Hamilton, he having been picked up 25 miles off Thatch- er's Island. He was getting astray from the fishing schooner Matthew McLean, and was (0 hours in adory before being res- cued.

ATTACKED BY A Binp.—Oue cf the crew of the brigt. Confederate had a novel experience when the vessel was some 20 miles off St. Pierre, says the Halifax Herald. The man was on the royal yard to take in that sail, when he was attacked by a large bird which tried to cling fast to him. The bird was beaten off, but returned. The sailor gave a second alarm ot an attack apd ayother sea- man quickly ran up and was fortunate enough to stan the bird which fell to the deck and was killed The seaman had a hard fight to keep the bird from clawing and pick- ing him. it measured eight feet from tip of wing to tip, and was a grepe or fish esgle or some other of that species.

A Rasu Acr.—A sad accident occurred at Wo fville, N.S, at about eight o'clock 02 Monday evening. Everett Brown, « lad of fifteen, asked his mother if he might gv to the post office. The boy feeling gloomy went into the kitchen and was heard moving around there f r some time, but on his becuming still his mother went to get him cto retarn to bis books and dis- covered that he had accidentally killed himself. A writ has been issued forthe St. John election. Nomination will take place on November 15th, election on the 22nd.

A telegram has been received from the government of Newfoundland intimating that delegates from that province to the Halifax conference will leave Newfound- land on November 2nd. In view of Hon. Mr. Tupper’s departure for England on November 2nd, it is probable that Sir John Thompson will replace him as one of the Canadian representatives at the Conference.

A Womans Threat: Lonvon, Oct. 27.

Miss Cosens, the well kuown advocate of woman’s suffrage, said yesterday at a meeting of the Woman’s Emancipation Union, that women should not go on talking tilithe crack of doom. The time will come soon for them to do something. Woman, she declared, had dynamite az ber disposal. Asked if she was serious in her reference to dynamite, she replied she was, ifthrough other means women failed to obtain freedom.

He contended that his party was strong enough t» carry on goverment without him, but that if he took another seat he would show that the government could be run without St. Joho and York. Toronto, Oct. 25 --George Pyke, account- ant in the Imperial Bank, left this city a few days ago, and an examination of his books shows that for a number of years past he has been manipulating the funds of the bank and involving them in his own speculations. The bank is amply protected by securities, but it is supposed that. Pyke’s misappropriations amount to about $10,000.

Orrawa, Oct. 25. -A woman named Sarah Burns, employed at the Russel House, was crushed to Toath in an elevator there to-day. The Coroner’s Jury returned a verdict of ac- cidenta! death.
