Mr. Witeur Fenno TuHayer, one of the ‘*Empire Flouring Mill Co.,” St. Louis, arrived in Charlottetown last evening. Mr. Thayer's mills are among the largest in the world—grinding 1,200 bbls. per day. He will spend a day here among our importers, talking up the points of his flour.
Mr. Isaac Waterman, Reeve of Lon- don, Ont., received last evening from Paris the decoration of the Legion of Honor, awarded him in consideration of personal service rendered at the late Exposition. Mr. Waterman exhibited samples of petro- leum and its products from the works at London, Ont.
A correspondent of the St. John T'ele- graph states that a startling affair occurred at Central Norton on the evening of Mon- day last. While Mr William McVey, wife and son, and Mr. James and William Provan were all quielty sitting in the house of the former, Mr. McVey, they were suddenly startled by a gun being discharged through one of the windows by some unknown per- sop. The ball passed the middle pane in a slanting direction, grazing Wm. Provan’s head and entered a panel of the door lead- ing out, just above Mr. McVey. Search was immediately made, but the night being dark no clue could be got the perpetrator. The affair has causel a good deal of excite- ment in the locality.

One of the women happening to enter the shop, the thief darted past her and out the door, fol- lawed by her, jshouting. A Ilttle 12 year old son of Mr. Doherty followed the thief closely and found him in McCann’s alley behind a barrel. The little fellow, with indomitable pluck, clinched him and held on to him for some time, but finally was obliged to let go, his strength not being equal to the task. The thief, on emerging from the alley, ran on down Main Street, and was caught by Mr. Doherty’s elder son, who laid him gently down. The police were immediately on the spot and the thief was taken back to Mr. Doherty’s shop, and on searching him there were found two sil- ver watches and a watch case. The fellow gave his name as Harry Wilson,of P. E. L., and took the matter very covily. On fur- ther examination of their prisoner at the station house, the police found another sil- ver watch in his boot. His name turns out to be Robert Galbraith.

We congratulate the Hon. gentlemen upon the splendid triumph, and we congratulate the country upon hwxving again given its confidence to its old representative, than whom no public man in Canada has exhib- ited a more earnest and unselfish devotion to the interests of his country. This elec- tion settles Mr. Flynn’s chances. Gaspe has recovered quickly from its momentary forgetfulness. —Montreal Gazette.
Yesterpay a child of Mr. James Heariz, of this city, was severely injured, and nar- rowly escaped death, by falling down a flight of stairs. Upon the arrival of Dr. Creamer, who was immediately sent for, it was fouud that the child’s shoulder was out of joint. The Dr., however, very skilfully reduced the dislocation, and in a remark- ably short space of time the child was at rest. Great credit is due Dr. Creamer for
