Goop PorKxers.—Mr. Abraham Brown, of Little York, killed yesterday the youn young pigs which were so much admired, ond which took first prize at the Exhibition last autumn. Theage of the pigs when killed was seven months; their weights, 290, 278, and 223 lbs., respectively. We should like to hear of a farmer who can show a better result than this.

Tue Baptist 8. §. Concert is becoming an attraction, the new building last night being well filled with a very appreciative audience. This concert ‘was not so good as the one pre- ceeding it by the same school, owing to its being less musical—there being toe much reading. The singing was excellent. The ** cute” little Misses Hendry and Carman will no doubt be welcomed again, as also the happy little face of Hetty Heartz. Little John Walker’s ‘‘naive” way of getting through his recitation was well applauded, as it deserved. As for the singing of the older members of the school, we can hardly accord too much praise. We learn the proceeds of this meet- ing goes to provide warm clothing for some cf the poorer children of the school. The sum realized was ever $40.

Notice to Mariners.

ATLANTIC—GREAT BANK OF NEW- FOUNDLAND.

NORTH

In consequence of several shoal patches having been reported on the Great Bank of Newfoundland, in the vicinity ef Virgin Rocks, an examination of the locality by Staff Commander W. F. Maxwell, Admiral- ty Surveyor, with the following results :—

Virots Rocas.—The least water found on these rocks was 3 fathoms; shoals occupying a space 6 miles long and one mile broad, hav- ing depths upon them vurying from 5 to 20 fathoms have also been found upon the bank on the Virgin Rocks are situated.

Easrren Rockxs.—A shoal, having a depth of 9 fathoms (lat. 46° 29‘ N. long. 49° 41° W.) was found to be situated east (true) from Vir- gin Rocks, distance 14 miles.

Jesse Kypsr Rocx.~-The position of this reported danger was carefully examined throughout one day, but no indication of it was found either by variations in the sound- ings, or change in quality of the bottom. __

Berret Bank—The position assigned to this bank (lat. 44° 43° N. long. 49° 52' W.) was also carefully examined, but no sign of it was found.

Nere.--The masters of various fishing vere aels, who have had many years’ experience on the Great Bank of Newfoundland, stated that to their knowledge, no trace of shoal ground exists near the reported positions of Jesse Ryder Rock and Bertel Bank.

This notice affects the following Admiralty Charts :—North Atlantic Ocean, General, No. 2059; North Atlantic Ocean, western part, No, 2059); St. John’s to Halifax, No. 2666 and Newfoundland, southern portion, No. 2324. Also, Newfoundland Pilot, 1878, page 6, and Sailing Directions for S.E. Coast of Nova Scotia and Bay of Fundy, 1875, pp. 3 and 4.—Londo» Gazette.

Special dispatch to Examiner. Lonvon, Dec. 15. The noted executioner Calcraft, for forty-six ‘years hangman in England, is dead. It is understood that the Council to be

held at Windsor Castle to-day, will fur- ther prorogne Parliament till February next.

Saummonses are issued for a meeting of the Cabinet Council to consider serious news from Afghanistan.

Davitt, Daly and Killen left Carrick-on- Shannon to-day for Dublin. They were accompanied to the railway station by a large crowd and a band playing lvish airs.

The Attorney General arrived at Carrick- on-Shannon last night, and was escorted to his lodgings by twenty armed policemen.

Robert Uarlisle, the Cornish pedestrian,

from Lands End, England, to John O’Groat’s House and back, has arrived at Penzance, the westermost town of England, on thé home journey.

Caucurra, Dec. 15.

Gen. Gough from Gandamvk, and Gen. Arbhtlenot, from Jellalabad, have been or- dered up to Cabul and reinforcements are being despatched to replace the troops at those points.

Communication with Gen. Roberts is still uninterrupted, but the excitement among the tribes is expected to spread. The Gov- ernment have ample forces at their disposal.

Lonpon, Dec. 15.

The Viceroy of India telegraphs to-day that General Roberts reports that his force is collected in the Sherpur Cantonment.

The loss of the British in the fighting yesterday was nineteen killed, including two officers, and 88 wounded, including three officers.

Orrawa, Dec. 15.

Dr. Tupper leaves to-morrow for the West to inspect the Welland Canal con- tract.

The Government organs to-day officially announce the appointment of Mr. Schrei- ber as Chief Supt. of the Government Rail- ways of Manitoba and the Northwest.

The Opposition to-day won a victory in the Election Court by unseating Darby Bergen, Couservative member for Corn- wall, on the grounds of bribery and corrup- tion.
