Mr. D.J. Macdonald, B. A., left this morning for San Anselmo, California, where he intends to continue his studies in the Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He is accompanied by bis sister,Miss Mary Macdonald, who goes to San Franscisco. Miss Macdonald has already travelled con- siderably in the Western States. R. conductors and trainmnen, representing the different sec~ tions of the [ntercolonial, was in Monciten on Monday interviewing the general manager on the prospects of an increase of pav. The interview was postponed fer three weeks on account of the general manager and general superintendent leaving for Nova Scotia on atour of inspection over the roac.

Bririse Post Orrice.—Postmaster General, the Duke of Norfolk, has ehewn profit of nearly $15 000,000 on the work- ing of the British post office tor the year ending last March. The numter of pack- ages of everv kind delivered during the year was 3,496,000,900. London received 2} oe-e-a. er the total letters posted. The thrift of the working classes is shown in the increase of post office saving bank deposits, which now stand at $615,000,006. There was an increase of five per cent. in telegrams. The staffof the post office was increased by 19.000 during the year, and now stands at 16v,000 of whom = 32, 000 are women.

Lai to Rest.—The faneral of the late Mrs. / ohn Griffith took place thie morning, leaving the house a: 8.45 for St. Danstan’s Cathedral. A Jarge number of citizens paid the last earthly tribute of respect to the deceased by following the hearse to the Roman Catholic cemetery, where the burial took place. Among the many tokens of sympathy received hy the family was a handsome fi-ral cross from the girls in Sentner, McLeod & Co’s store, where s daughter of the deceased is em- ployed. The pall was borne by James Bvyroe, D. O’M. Reddin, Patrick Clarkin, J.B. McDonald, William Wyatt and T. B. Riley. The funera! mass was celes brated by Father Johnston, who aleo offi- ciated at the grave.
