grown up - a generation that has no knowledge of those grim days except what has been told to them or what they have read in the cold pages of history. These young boys and girls are today asking themselves why is this comme- morative service being held and what purpose does it serve? We are met to do honor to the mem- ory of the gallant band of young men who day after day took to the air to do battle with the pride of the Nazi airforce. If it had not been for the heroism and fortitude of this gallant band of heroes. our free way of life would be but a memory. There is no doubt but that for a few grim days the fate of democracy hung in the balance. Yet the indomitable courage of these gallant men triumphed and the free nations were given the precious months in which to rearm and eventually crush the forces bent on our destruction. It is there- fore only right that we should hon- or the memory of those who triumphed in the Battla of Britain.

"The second question. however. is a little more complex and more difficult to answer. I think that this service gives us an opportun- ity to remind ourselves that if we are to preserve our democratic way of life we must be ever vigil- ant - we must be ever prepared to make the sacrifices and we must be prepared to defend to the utmost the peace that was won at such an appalling cost. I think it has become more and more ap-' parent during the last year or so. that the only way that we and those who share our ideals can bargain with those who desire to destroy us and our ideals is from strength that is why Canada. a nation that abhors war and all that the war connotes, today has a navy, an army and an alrforce several times larger than there has ever been in any year of its peacetime history.

Four F-86 Sabre jets from the Chatham.alr base made two fly pasts over the Cenotaph at the conclusion of the observance of two minutes silence, the second of which coincided with the firing of three volleys by the rifle party and the playing of "Ablde With Me” by the R. C. A. F. Band. The sounding of the Last Post and Reveille concluded the impressive Cefemvny. The 'ring party was commanded by gt. R. Ward.

The death ocurred after a long illness in the Prince County Hospi- of Mrs. Charles Taylor, Malpeque. on August 2.3 at the age of 49 years. She was the daughter of Mrs. Mary (Maybe) Stewart and the late James William Stewart of Norboro.

Until recently she took an active part in church and comiuunity af- fairs and was a member of the missionary society of her church. also the Women's Institute, where she will be greatly missed. l

Left to mourn her passing are her husband; her mother, Mrs. James Stewart, Norboro; one daughter. Irene, Mrs. William Stevenson, Charlottetown; one son, Earle. Charlottetown and three grand children.
