, Jan. 3-—J&pa.nl$e police today revealed seven persons, includ- ing one woman, were being held for tenioristio plots against high Japan- ese ‘officials. Most of those held are said to be army officers.

It was learned the alleged plots were discovered last June but were kept a secret by the police until to- dB-Y-

‘ﬂare passed away suddenly in \his city on November 12th, Charles Peter Gauthier in his 84th year. Deceased was born in Rustico where he lived until seventeen years ago when he came to Charlottetown to reside with his daughter, Mrs. Alex LeClair.

Of Acadian descent, Mr. Gauthier remembered many incidents of the olderrdays andon the occasion of the visit of King Edwasl to the

Jsland, who v/as then Prince of Wales, he sailed the Prince across Rustico Harbour in a pleasure boat. He enjoyed very much talking of the old days with acquaintances and was a most genial companion. Of quiet demeanor he nevertheless at- tracted to himself many friends who deeply regret his passing.

The funeral was held on the morning of November 14th and the many Mass Cards and Spiritual Oi- lferlngs testified w the esteem in which the late gentleman was held.

Left to molmi his loss is one sis- ter, Mrs. John Perry, and a brother Fidele Gauthier, both of Charlotte- town, ﬂve sons, Jeremiah, John, Henry, Ileon, Fidclo, all of Rusticc; seven daughters, Evn, Mrs. Alex Pineaus; Jane, Mrs. James Stewart; Lucy, Mrs. Eben Marshall; Elizab- eth, Mrs. William Iioach; Sarah, Mrs. Alex. LeClair; Priscilla Mrs. ‘Ihomss Jarvis; and Agnes, all res- idents of Charlottetown. "

Four unemployed persons, the police revealed, were among the ar- rested, as well as two miners and a young woman reputed to be involved in the plot.

This is the fifth plot uncovered since the assassination of Premier Inural in May 1902.

The would-be assassins had hoped, it was stated, by killing a number of influential men, and particularly those close to the Japanese throne, to cause disorder and establish a dictatorship. The police said that young officers said to have had a hand in the plot were partisans of a revolutionary group known as the "Shows." going back to the 1866 re- volution of the Emperor Mei.

Distress among the Japanese peas- ants, and discontent in the army, were said to have given considerable impetus to these plots.

‘There passed away at Montague on Saturday, December 22nd, Margaret Campbell, beloved wife of William McLellan, in her sev- enty-iourth year after a brief ill- ncss of less than one week. Up to the time of her illness, the de- ceased had enjoyed good health and was able to attend to her household duties in a very capable manner. On Monday morning she had planned her day's work when she was suddenly seized with a stroke from which she did not re- cover and although given every care that medical skill and loving hands could give, she passed on into the brightness of God's Home six days later.

Mrs McLellan possessed the

finew qualities to be found in womanhood—klndness, gentleness, loyalty and patience. Her willing hands always found work to do for those with whom she came in contact in her dnlly life. A large circle of loving friends mourn the loss of one who was indeed a friend to them. The last rites of the Roman Catholic ~falth were performed by her parish priest, Rev. Father O. Kiggirls. The fu- neral was held on Christmas morning from the Montague Church, where Requiem High Mass was held by Father O. Kiggins. The pall bearers were Messrs. F.
