As we walk through it we feel the presence of that power before which prince and peasant mvat bow down, and as we read the inscriptions on the magnificent monuments with which it is filled weseemto realize that our faith still binds the living and the dead with golden chains sroand the feet of God, that we ourselves shall pass away and sleep with them beneath the sad, we know not how, or when, or where; and as we think cf what will be we can but say

A splendid celtic cross monument has just been erected there by} Mr, Francis McKenna to the memory of his sister Catherine. It stands £4 feet high, and is buil: of Barrie dark granite beautifully polished and exquisitely interlaced and carved with rare 6ld celtic ornamentation. The front, back, sides and wheel bear the symbole of the Catholic faith. Eternity without beginning and without end, the four evangelists, the eight beatitudes and the adorable Triaity are represented, cut deep into the stone and polished, the back ground being left uptoucbed so as to give sufficient shadow to throw out the§ornamentation. The name “F. McKenna, ” inthe panel in the front and back of the second base, is in 5- inch letters raieed three-eighths of an inch from back of panel. The surfaces polish- ed, the back ground is leftto represent light cut work ivscription of the late Catherine McKenna, sunk in gothic block lettere, gilded in a firat-¢lass manner. The stem of the cross diminishes ou the front, back and sides from1 foot 2 inches square at the bottom to 10 inches at tne centre line of wheel. It is certainly tbe most elaborate piece of granite work ever done in this country, aad reflects credit on Mr. E. J. Duffy, who desigaed it, and on Mr. Robert Reid, of Montreal, by whom it was execuied,

Promenade Concert.—Phe promenade concert ?in Queen Square Gardens last night was a delightfu! affair. The music by the fine band of the 4th Regt. waa ex- cellent and was thoroughly enjoyed by the great number of people in attendance. Mr. M._M.Galbraih was musical director.

Tae Curr Hovse.—The addition to the Cliff House Thas beep completed, and that popular summer resort is now ready for the reception of an increased number of gueste. The addition will give twenty- two extra sleeping roome besides a music room and ladies parlor. There are fire- places in the music room and ladies par- lor. McKenna and Me-~ Gilvary are much improved in appearance and report the treatinent to be as good as could be wished for. Palmer’s time soon expires. “Smiler” Welsh has been put on the prieon farm of which the crops are in fine conditions The convicts are attending more especially to the weeding of the root crops. Elleworth hoped to be put in the machine shop, but bis chances are slim as he had beea at Dorchester before. Young McAleer will likely be placed at shoe- making when the first vacancy comes.
