LONDON (AP) - Britain's new- est film star is the Duke of Edin- burgh. He has taken up acting to help his favorite charity. the Na- tional Playing Fields Association. The Duke previously has ap- peared in one-minute movies mak- ing a straithforward appeal for funds. This time It's the real stuff-with Bob Hope as a co-star. The movie lasts five minutes, It opens with the Duke taking a swipe at a cricket ball in a game with Britain's top players. The scene is contrasted with pictures of kids endangering their lives by playing on London's back streets. Next you see the Duke at Wem- bley Stadium. talking over the need for playing fields with Brit- ish sportsmen. Bhb Hope turns up as a school kid in cricket gear. pleading for somewhere to play.

The movie took two months to make. It will be shown at prac- tically every theatre in Britain. People who worked on it say the Duke is a wow.

"He had to learn his lines and make-up just like any other actor" said one technician. "And he never fluffcd .a word. He could make Hollywood anytime he wants."
