LeBlanc and Frank McNaughton (formerly of Charlottetown) committed for old unpaid Scott Act fines. At Painsec, the officers tay, McNaughton asked to go to the closet and was followed by Mr. MacLaren, who says McNaughton entered the closet and shut the door, McNaughton not appearing for some time, Mr. MacLaren tried the door and found it locked. Axd on examination it was found he was missing and it ie supposed went out through the car window at Painsec. He was not found missing uati] the train had got under way. McNaughton returned to Monc- ton, arrived here shead of the officers who came back from Dorchester on the afternoon express.—-Moncton Times.

Constpexen rt a Six.—A recent despatch from Montreal says: There is a great flat- ter ainong the city church choirs over the recent performance of the **Gondoliers ” by an Amsteur Opera Company. Members from nearly all the choirs i the city s4ng in the operas, and this, coming immediately after the stroug denunciation of theatres by the Protestant Ministwwrial Association, has caused a good deal of curiosity to know what the different churches will do. At the prayer meeting in one of ths Tresby- terian churches, prayers were offered up tor one of the leading lady singers and her “companions in sin,”” as they were called, and it is stated that one of the Methodist charches has re quests d the resignation of one of the lady members, because she sang in the “‘G ondolers.” The performance iteelf was a great social and operatic success

Tue Sacrament oF Penance —The second of the series of sermons on ‘* The Sacraments” was delivered in St. Dun- stan’s Cathedral last evening by Rev. Ron- ald B. Macdonald, of Rustico. His subject was ** Penance: the priest has the power to forgive sins.” The sermon occupied exactly one hour in its delivery, and was an able explanatioa of the position of the Catholic Churca on this very important point.
