Joun Dorie, who was yesterday committed to jail for laroeny, laid information against a number of fellows who, he said, robbed a sailor named George Ward at the East end of the city. On thisinformation, Wm. Corish, jr., James Goodman, James Praught, Fred Paul and Patrick Brogan were arrested, and an en- quiry into the charge is now proceeding.

PRESBYTERIAN Muissions.—A missionary meeting will be held this evening in St. James’ Church under the authority of the Presby tery, on behalf of the missionary operations of the Assembly. Addresses will be delivered by the Revs. Neil McKay, A. J. Carr and William Grant, on the principal missions. A collection will be taken up for the purpose of defraying the expenses connected with the meeting. Chair taken at 7.45 p. m.

Kearney, the ‘‘workingman’s friend, is now said to bs in extremely bad odor with tho workingmen of San Francisco, his late allies. He was arreste| on Thursday evening of last week for disturbing a public meeting, and it is now said his arrest was instigated by his friends, and probably saved his life, as the feeling against him is very bitter. Califor- nians regard lim as a curse, Intelligent workmen believe he sold them out to influen- tial corporations, and only recognize in him a loud-monthed scoundrel, who carries on a senseless agitation in favor of the working- men for personal ends.

Tn Butcher assault case ‘came up before the Stipendiary Magistrate to-day. The evidences of Mr. Mark Butcher, Dr. Beer, Mr. Richard Butcher and Mr. Francis Stanley were heard. As matters stand at present, it is impossible to tell the result of the case as the alleged assault on Mr. Butcher appears to be without intention as far as Mr. Stanley is concerned. Another evidence is to be heard to-morrow, an-l judgment will be given. Stanley and Hoar were again admitted to

bail.

We were shown to-day the silver medal won at the late prize meeting of the Queen’s County Rifle Association by Sergt. McDougall, of the Charlottetown Engineers. It was pre- sented by the Dominion Team to the _Associa- tion, and was coiapeted for under their rules. The medal is a very beautiful one; 1s star shaped, and hangs on a blue ribbon, upon which are two silver clasps, one with the en- graving ‘‘ 1879.” On the front of the medal is the engraving of a rifleman, and on the back the following inseription: ‘‘ Won by Serygt. .E. McDougall, score 86, H. P. 8. 100. We congratulate Sergt. McDougall.
