To the Hon. Chief Justice Sullivan and associate Justices of the Sup- reme Court of Prince Edward Is- land.
We the Grand Jury of the County of Queens in Prince Edward LI land re- spectiully beg leave to submit the fol- lowing report :—
We visited the Hospital for the Insane and found everything ina fairly good state, considering its very much over- crowded condition. We would strongly urve the necessity of immediately pro- viding the additional required accom- modation.
We also visited the Poor House and found the wards in as good a condition as its overcrowded state would permit, except one room occupied by four male persons which was in a scandalous stale,
We also visited the Jail which is in a clean condition and are pleased to find so few persons incarcerated therein.
We feel that we cannot separate without expressing our regre! at the lcss sustained by the legal profession and the community at large, in the death of the late Malcolm McLeod, Esq., Q. C., so long one of the fore- most jurists of this province. In so doing we believe we are only voicing the sentiments of appreeiation for his character, ability and sterling worta, felt by the citizens of Charlottetown, amongst whom be so long resided, and bythe people of P. E.1., by whom he was so highly respected.

A letter received last night from Mr. Lorne Stewart contains the following:

“This is writing under d ficulties. We don’t know how long we wil! be here, avd are ready to leave at any time, We are camped in a very sandy spot between two mceuntaine. We cannot eee a hundred yards at times, Lizards are numeroua, and itis rather unpleasant to think of them erawling up our! g+in the night.
The natives are very clean Some of the children wear no clothing.
While in Cape Town I received a solid silver bracelet from a young lady while I was waiting for the train to leave the siatien.
