Scottish Seaman Is Praised For Heroism In Ship Rescue

HALIFAX (CP)—Alex Lanr mont, a native of Edinburgh, Scofland, and a crewman aboard the British vessel Lon- doner was credited here wth saving the lives of several seamen rescued in the Atlantic Friday from the sinking Liber- ian freighter Tradeways II.

The“ Londoner rescued 22 of the 33 Chinese crewmen from the 7,184-ton Tradeways II when she broke up and sank in the Atlantic, 640 miles north of the Azores. The vessel Jean L. D.. a French craft, picked up five of the survivors. One man is known dead, 10 others are miss- ing and presumed drowned.
