Covering sports is not the worst job in the world so I_ probably shouldn’t complain but was one championship too much to ask for?

Things looked promising at the beginning of this years AUAA interscholastic season at UPEI. The Men’s Soccer team were returning champions and had not lost many players. The men had a great season and finished firstin their division receiving abyein the first round of the pay-offs. Then they were defeated in their first play- off game. The Lady Soccer Panthers had some rookies who helped out a young team but the girls were not able to make the play-offs. With only three teams in the Field Hockey league my hopes were high as anything could have happened. ~ Unfortunately, that too failed to result inachampionship.

Well, the hell with the Fall sports, the winter is are won. Hockey? Yeah there is still a team at UPEI. Anyway I think they won three games or something and they still made the play- offs. Yes, there was my chance. The underdog, “Cinderella story” UPEI Panthers come from nowhere and win the AUAA’s. Nope, put out in the first round.

Anyway, hockey is too damn cold. Let’s move indoors.

Ahyes! Round ball my favorite. Well things did not start off well for either Panther Basketball team. Both men’s and women’s had slow starts and the men’s team never really got out of the lull and failed to make the play-offs. The women’s team, however, got it in gear and managed to finish first in their division earning a bye in the first round of the play-offs.

Now I know what youare thinking. “I heard this before, it happened to the men’s soccer team, they’re gonna lose in their first play-off game.” Well you’re right, they did. Another one bites the dust, no damn championship story to write about.

Finally we have Volleyball. The team at UPEI has had some trouble winning over the last couple of years, but two new promising rookies were aboard this year. Midway through the year the girls had more wins than they had in years, two star players (one leading the nation in kills) and were climbing up the standings. What happened?

The star player who was leading every other female volleyball players in the country, in the most exciting play in the sport department, leaves to attend boarding school in Switzerland???? And the team fails to make the play- offs.

But I’m not bitter. Atleast Wrestlemainia was good. And since there are no spring sports to bitch about I guess I’ll have to wait for next year.
