Me. Flint resumed the debate on the re- distribution bill. He admitted that the proposed bill was not a gerrymander as far ss Nova Scotia was concerned. It was the prire ple of the bill that he objected to. He was of the same opinion as Mr, Davies in regard to the legal point raised by Mr. Davies.

Mr. Hughes followed, dealing at length with the manner in which the Mowat Gov- erument gerrymandered the Province of Ontario, Yet the grits never condemned them for doing so. He showed that Mr. Mowat, through his gerrymander bill, held power in Ontario to-day, notwithstanding that he had a minority of over five thou- sand in the Province. The repentance speeches of McCarthy and (Brien reminud- ed him of the utterances of reformed rene- gades in religion.

The debate was adjourned.

CANADIAN CREDIT. The New Loan Well Received,

Dr. Wardrope preached the opening sermon before the Presbyterian General Assembly. Rev. Dr. Caven and Rev. Thos. Sedgwick, were nominated for the moderatorship, Dr. Caven being successful, 115 to 82. Rev. Dr. Fraser, clerk of the Assembly, has resigned on account of old age.

MonTREAL, June 9.

Although some of the leading spirits of the general presbytery got to work to-day this great religious parliament will not get down to business until to-morrow. The majority of the three hundred and sixty delegates have arrived. The retiring moderator, Rev. Dr. Wardrope, preach- ed this evening, and Dr. Caven, of Toronto, and Rev. Thomas Sedgewick, of Tatamagouche, N.S., were nominated for the moderatorship, Rev. Dr. Caven being the successful candidate. The vote stood, Caven 115, Sedgewick 92. The resignation of Rev. Dr, Fraser, of Barrie, as recording clerk of the assembly was presented and referred to a special committee.

Nova Scotia—Cod fishing was excellent to-day at Spry Bay, Goud at Port Medway, fair at Digby, Lockeport and Lunenburg and a few at Whitebead and Canso. Her- ring fair at Spry Bay, but poor at Lunen- burg and Whitehead. Lobsters plentiful at Digby, fair at Port Medway, poor at Lockeport, Lunenburg, Spry Bay, White- head and Canso. Muckerel in abundance at Canso, fair at Lunenburgand a few at Whitehead. Haddock goud at and fair at Lockeport and Port Medway. Light catches of hake and halibut and sal- mon at Lockeport and good of salmon and a few gaspereaux at Port Med way.

Cape Breton—Cod fair at St. Ann's, but poor at Cheticamp and Port Hood; while boats at Louisburg average two quintals cod and from two to three barrels of herring and mackerel, Lobsters are fiir at St. Ann’s, poor at Cheticamp; and herring and lobsters poor at at St. Peters and Port Hood as well aa Arichat.

P. E. Island—Cod and lobsters are fair at Georgetown Lobsters scarce at Bloomfield.
