A serious affeay took place here on Fri- day, in cotisequence of the attempt of the} Sheriff to evict ve tevants on the estate of | the Countess of Kingston. The sheriff was | assisted by 250 police and unlitary, imelud- ing @ troop of dragoons, bat the resistance | ef the people was s) determined that the | work was only partly accomplished. The) chapel bell of Micchelistown began ringing | in the morning to warn the country that evictions were about to begin. The chapel bells ten miles around took up the refrarm, calling the population to assemble. The police attempted to stop the bells but did not = stuceced. Ten thousand persons assembled here in ‘ess than an hour. A large number gathered round the police and military.
