Empsroria, Kansas, March 7.—Jobn Gilbert, yestercay confeesed to murdering to his wifeand four emall children near Interprise, Kansas, last Thuraday.
Gilbert, for whom. reward has offered, was arrested here yesterday.
He feigned ; not to know of the crime, and at first shammed insanity.
Finally, when hard pressed by the sheriff, Gilbert confessed the crime.

The Liberal Conservative Party may well be called the Canadian party, aod there is no need of them to wear the maple leaf or any other emblem, for thei bistory is the history of the Dominion. It is ecarcely too much to say that bad it not been for such menas Sir John McDonald and thoce whom he got to work with him, after the abrogation of the old reciprocity treaty there would have been no British Canada today ; and from that time to this the Grit party has been mostly on the other side. And where has Sir Charles Tupper stood? Alwayson the side of Canada. Where wae be in 1891? Came out from Englacd to help defend Canada from the calamity which Blake foresaw Laurier and his party were trying to bring upon this eountry. And what has been the attitude of the two leaders towards British preferential trade? Throughont all the years that Sir Charles Tupper was in England, he never ceased to labor fer the promotion of that senti« ment which should make such preferential trade possible; and when, in 1897, largely through Sir Charles Tupper’s efforts and the efforts of his party, it became pos- sible, Sir Wilfrid uaurier, witk his eye on Washingion, steppedin and blocked the whole course of -British progress to the incalculable injary of this couatry. There is certainly a very considerable contrast between the two leaders as well as be- tween the two parties, and it may not be long before the people of Canada will have an opportunity of choosing between them.
