It's Great For Hockey

Having the Jesse Winchester concert in the rink was not only quite an injustice to some ex- cellent performers, but also to the people who paid $2.25 for the concert. The rink may be great for hockey games, but for musical concerts, the fac- ilities are_atrocious. ' During the concert, it was colder inside the rink than it was outside. The acoustics in the rink are terriable, not to mention the fact that some of the machines in the rink kept vibrating throughout the performance. The distract— ions and physical discom-' fort in the rink were not only noticed by the aud- ience, but also by the performers, who made men- tion of it.

One has to admit though, that if the university plans to have more concerts on campus, they are slight— ly limited as to the amou- nt of places where it can be held. Hopefully the rink will be covered in ice soon, so that the possibility of ever using that nonstrosity for a concert again will not arise. The Barn and Duffy are both better than the rink (though nowhere near perfect) but both are also very small and in the event of a large concert, they would be of no use. The only place left on campus where a concert can be held is the gym. The gym, like the other places (mentioned, has much to be desired, but if the un- iversity made a point of holding all concerts in there, there are a few things they could do with the gym to make it quite a bit better for concerts. It’s Part of UPEI

The U.P.E.I. music dept. as a part of their program presents a one hour music (recital every Friday} between eleven thirty and twelve thirty (tentatively) The object of the recitals is to give the students in the music department more opportunity to play ~in front of an audience- The selection of things to be performed is decided upon by the students. It is usually something that somebody has been doing in conjunction with their classes. As a result, most of the music tends to be classical music, this is an excellent intorduction to it because most of the students give a short talk about the composor and the music which they are going to play.

The only problem with the recitals is that they are held in the music depart—
