The Montreal Gazette remarks that the above words, of Mr. Dan. Derby- shire, of Brockville, one of the dairy trade authorities of Eastern Ontaria, re- fer to the inauguration of the plan of shipping butter to Great Britain in re- frigerated chambers. Thye are a cor- rect statement of the revival of a trade that in 1899 gave three and a half millions of dollars of British mo- ney to Canadian dairymen, ‘They were spoken in October, 1895, at the meeting of the Ontario Dairymen’s Association, nine months before Mr, Sydney Fisher became sinister of agri- culture. Moreover, though Mr. Derby shire is generally counted a Liberal, they were spoken in defence of the Conservative Government of the day against Liberal attacks in connection with the cold storage and refrigerated freight systen for the shipment of The system needed de- fence them, though it'does not now. It shows that the system was in profitable eper- ation and had appoved itselfa year before Mr. Fisher became a minister, and when he was not even a member of Pariiament. Mr. Fisher is entitled to credit in connection with this sys- tem, for having recorganized and carried on a good thing. He was not the originator; he has not been an origin- .ator in anything.
