A terrible case of destitution was discovered in Milwaukee Wis.,on the 27th by the police. Mrs. Sophia Hozel aged 37 years, died at her home,located in the rear of Nw. 580 Fourth Street. The neighbors notitiea the autherities this morning. Officer Frellsen, of the Asseciation Charities, visited the pre- mises, a filthy hovel, «nd witnessed a sickening spectacle. The dead woman lay partially nude, and six large rats were devouring the body, The vermin had eaten away one side of her face and both eyes. Two little children of the dead woman were huddled in the same room, nearly starved. The husband and father was found lying in front o1 the place, grossly intoxicated. The body of the woman was takento the Mergue, where an inquest was be held, and the children were sent to a charii- able institution. Frellson says there is no doubt that Mrs. Holzel wan starved to death.
