C. There are two awards from the Council with maxi- mum of $250.00 value amounts. One award is for a Holland College student and another award is for a UPEI student.

B. St. -Andrew’s Society bursaries are made available through endowment funds left to the Society for the promotion of Christian edu- cation of youth. To be eligi- ble for a bursary, candidates must be: Catholic; a resident of PEI; have a Scottish sur- name or be at least 50 per- cent of Scottish origin; and, be a full-time university stu- dent. St. Andrew’s bursaries are tenable for only the first two years of university.

ETHICS IN THE WORKPLACE

On Thursday, September 22, a lecture was givenin Duffy Amp- itheatre by Dr. Gregory Baum. This lecture was one in a series of lectures given by the faculties on workplace ethics.

After being introduced by President Elliot, Dr. Baum pro- ceeded to give a thorough and thought-provoking lecture on hu- man rights in the work place.

After discussing the three main traditions of human rights, lib- eral, conservative, and socialist, he also said how these three tradi- tions do not co-exist in harmony.

In the second part of his lec- ture, Dr. Baum gave a solution as to how these three traditions could live in harmony. In this so- lution he mentioned the human right to work, how full employ-

ment doesn’t necessarily lead to growth in industry, and also the welfare state.

At the beginning of this lec- ture Dr. Baum announced that this is the fortieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Hu- man Rights.
