It has been decided by the SDUSU Exe— cutive and Board of Governors that the $32,479.01 in SDUSU assets will be glven to the Athletic Department.

The specific conditions of the turnover are" that the Department use the money for renovation and extension of the UPEI rink, and etsablish within the rink a “Hall of Fame” for former SRU and PWC figures, in memory of the SDUSU.

The decision, which has generated a lot of controversy in the last two weeks, was made last Sunday night after it had dragged on all year. This was due in part to the fact that the SDU board did not give the SDUSU

its money from the sale of the former SDU

Tuesday night another meeting was call- ed by SDUSU President Ellen MacDonald and Bill LeClair to consider a new alterna- tive — including the Hall of Fame in the pro- posed UPEI Student Union, Building, and donating the .money to the SUB fund. At that meeting, a motion to reconsider the de- cision was defeated after lengthy debate, al- though it is reported that opposition to it was much greater than at the Sunday meeting.

Other proposals considered Sunday were for giving the money to the UPEI SUB fund, or giving it to the UPEI library.

It is understood that the library was re- jected because Merritt Crockett, Head Lib- rarian, informed the group that he had enough money to purchase shelve books, but

~ not enough staff and space to handle as many

as he could afford to buy. The library want- ed the money to buy a collection of rare books.

The reason for the rejection of the SUB proposal is not, clearly known, but may be revealed when Miss MacDonald explains the reasons behind the SDUSU move tonight.

Tonight will also be the date for the pay- ment of the funds.
