PRESIDENT

° The Inaugural Friends of UPEI Scholarship Fundraising Banquet was a success. The event was sold out, and the final tally had yet to be counted; it will likely reach over $6,000, which is to be contributed directly to students in leadership positions in the form of scholarships and bursaries.

° Had meetings with mem- bers of both the Faculty Association and the Board of Governors during the last two weeks and reported that while we are not out of the woods yet, some controversial issues are now off the table and tensions have eased a bit. ° The policy committee has made serious headway as it has finally made its way through the entire binder. We look forward to its presentation.

VP FINANCE

° Announced that this year we have contributed zero dollars to our Capital Savings Fund but have allocated $5,000 and hope that next year we can invest $10,000 into the fund. -

° Proposed that the annual benefactor this year be the Big Brother/Big Sister foundation through supporting Bowl For Kids and donating $500.

EXEC VP

° The Change for Change Campaign is underway and we have 250 interested students on the email list.

° Had a meeting with the Student Loan Appeal Board. In regards to the Student Loan Appeal Board Jeff met with Don Currie.

° Noted that the appointment of Faculty of the year is coming

up. A representative from each faculty is needed to form a panel with Jeff and another executive member.

° Contacted Barb Gibson about holding a cut-a-thon here on campus as they have been success- ful in the past, and attempts to hold one this year have so far been unsuccessful.

VP ACTIVITIES

° There have been a number of successful events at the Wave including Grand Theft Bus and Rock Ranger. The opening of the — new MacLauchlan rink, with the UPEI Panthers playing off against Saint Mary's, was also celebrated. Friday nights at the Wave have seen. good crowds, which are expected to increase with the upcoming Winter Carnival.

° Winter Carnival is starting Wednesday afternoon with a photo scavenger hunt and a polar bear run across campus. Thursday night there will be open mike with Elmer Diegal and Tim Chassion. Friday . night there will be a movie pub with an 80's theme and Saturday there will be touch football outside and snow sculptures.

° The 2nd annual indoor beach blast volleyball tournament will be held from the 6th to the 8th of February, and upcoming events include The Rude Mechanicals on the 20th of February and The Jimmy Swift Band on the 27th of February.

| SENATE

. A new honors program in Foods and Nutrition was approved, but concerns have been brought up about applied degrees that are available through Holland College

and the impact that those degrees will have on the enrollment in the Foods and Nutrition department at UPEI.

° All student positions on various Senate committees have been filled.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS | ° The policy and planning committee will be bringing forward

_ five policies for approval concern-

ing research and development, health and safety and closed circuit television monitoring. This last policy deals with the future imple- mentation of a camera surveillance system in public areas of campus such as parking lots, the UPEI Bookstore, and building perimeters and entrances.

° Negotiations between the administration and the Faculty

Association resumed January 13,

2004 and a number of dates have been set for future meetings.

MAPUS ° A letter has been sent via

-email to all students at UPEI with

regards to the university's closing procedures during bad weather.

BUSINESS

. Faculty appreciation night was held last Friday the 23rd at the HMCS Queen Charlotte and went well. .

° There was a "Biology vs. Business" pub-crawl this past Friday.

SCIENCE

° The Biology department is teaming up with the Business department for a Biology vs.

Business pub-crawl. ° This Wednesday at

Brookvale Provincial Ski Park the Biology department will be holding a sledding event and the Chemistry department will be holding a skiing event.

° A representative from the Chemistry department of the University of Calgary visited UPEI and gave a seminar for people interested in graduate study at that school.

EDUCATION

° An Education representa- tive had a meeting with a Faculty Association Rep. and has been assured that they will graduate in May.

° International Students are fund-raising by selling $40 tickets on a $3000 gift certificate to The Travel Store. They are also selling tickets 3/$5 on a one thousand dol- lar bill.

° The education department also had a successful pub-crawl last Friday. ;

GSA ° E-mails have been sent to

all students who quality to graduate

this year to address any of their concerns regarding the possibility of a faculty strike and how it would effect their graduation if ever one was to go ahead.

° GSA sponsored seminar topics are currently being dis- cussed. -

VET MED

° The Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association held an auction on January 28th to raise money to send students to the AVMA confer- ence in Tennessee.

° SAVS met with the Vice
