The Cologne Gazette publishes a despatch from its correspondent at Lisbon stating that in consequence of the change of the Portuguese ministers at London, the pro- pesal of Portugal for holding an_inter- national conference to setule the Anglo- Portuguese dispute concerning the ter- ritory in East Africa will not be dispatched before Thursday. Portugal, the dispatch says, is willing to submit the questions in dispute to the conference now sitting at Brussels, but would prefer a speci«l con- ference. Spaiu, France, Italy, Austria and Russia favor holding the conference. Germany made no official statement as to her position, on the subject. The des- patch says Glyon Petre, the British min- ister at Lisbon, informed the Portuguese government that England will agree to the holding of the conference.

SCHOOL BOYS TURN UPON THE TEACHER AND THROW HIM DOWN STAIRS.

A Campbelton, N. B., desyatch of the 5th says: Yesterday before dinner a row took place at the High School here, in which one of the teachers named Steeves, from near Moncton, was badly worsted. It appears that a young son of J. A. Johnson, locomotive foreman here, was ordered to leave the school and go home, and when he started to go he was ordered to return and take bis seat but refused to du so; where- fure the teacher seized him and attempted to tuump his head against the wall. At this juncture the son cf Conductor A. McLel- lan took a hand in, and another boy named Murray cime to the aid of his schoolmates, and in Jess than five minutes the teacher was badly slugged and thrown down stairs, where he was alterwards attacked by a mob of schuiars and run from the premises. The school was thrown in a commotion, the trustees had to be called together, and the affair is still unsettled. A strong feeling has been aroused against the teacher, who, itis claimed, is allto blame. His assail-
