Beatles Noted Among Young Potato Plants
During the past. week potato ma battles and Colorado potato mu-ties have been seen on young potato plants, reports the Science Service Laboratory weekly bulle- tin, The flea beetles puncture unall holes In the leaves and the mutt potato beetles are laying gggs which will develop into the rod larvae or "grubs" later in the season. If a DDT spray or dust is applied now it will kill these nduit inserts and reduce the pop- ulations throughout the summer. With the small plants only one nozzle per row is necessary.

The death of Mrs. James Lan- drigan, of Charlottetown. occurr- ed suddenly in the Sacred Heart Home on Wednesday June 24. she was in the ninety-first. year of tier age.
Besides her husband. to whom she had been married fifty-nine yours, she is survived by three daughters. Sister St. Victor, of St. Andrews West, Ontario. Mrs. Don J. Baize, of Detroit. Mich., and Miss Ethel Landrigan. R. E. of Boston, and one son. Percy J. Landrigan. of Charlottetown; also by two sisters, Mrs. McEncrowe, Shediac. and Mrs. Lydia Mclntyrc of Somcrvillc. Mass., and a. brother Erncat Muiiniiy, of Boston, also by six grandciiildrcn and four great- grandchildren.
Mrs. Landrigan was the former Miss Ann M. Muilaliy. daughter of the late John Muilally of Gow- an Brae. The remains are resting tit the Charlottetown Funeral Home, whence the funeral will take plncc to St. Dunstan's Basil- ica on Friday at 9 ii. m.

FUNERAL AT IIUNTER IIIVICIK -The funeral of the late Mrs. Murdoch Cutcliffe was held yester- day afternoon from Hunter Rival- United Church, Services at the church and grave were conducted by the Rev. Howard Christie. A solo was rendered by Mr. Gordon Carew. Pallbearers were Wiliirln Careiv, Frank Bagnall, Lemuel Craswell, James Andrews. John Clark and Eddie Roliings. Inter- ment was in Amherst, N. 5.
HOME. SCHOOL MEETING - West Royalty Home and School Association held its regular month- ly meeting last evening. Further discussion was held on ways to raise funds to carry on necessary repairs of hall and it was decided that Mr. and Mrs. Barry Budgen at- tend next meeting of the Women's Institute to plan on working to- gether on this project. Mr. Condon, Principal of West Royalty school. gave his interesting report. for the year which gave those present. an insight of the successful work car- ried on during the year. After ra- freshments were scrved by Mrs. Ree Simmons and Mrs. Ralph Mar- Donald s very interesting film on the early life of the Queen brought the session to a close.
BENEFIT ENTERTAINIIIENT -A benefit bingo under the aus- pices of the City Employees' Un- ion in the interest. of a former valued employee at City Hall was conducted at: the Rollaway Club last evening and greatly enjoyed by those In attendance. A pleas- ing feature of the night's enter- tainment was the voluntary ap- pearance of the Lads and Lassits Band for which the committee in charge expressed their deep ap- co-opcration of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph MacDonald also added to the success of the evening. Police Sgt. Gus Dowiing as chairman of the committee in charge was assisted by Messrs. Earle Burke and Frank Pi-unty in arranging the entertainment.

Considerable discussion regard- ing the quality of the gravel used in city street work featured a special meeting of the City Coun- cil held this week. As a result of the discussion a resolution moved by Councinllor Elmer MacDonald and seconded by Mr. P. R. Mac- Cormac that street work be sus- pended until tenders for gravel could be called for was introduc- ed. It was defeatcd on the decid- ing vote of Mayor J. D. Stewart.
Coiuiciilor MacDonald criticised particularly the work being done on Union Street and said the trucks delivering the gravel were arriving on the job with half londs. He also expressed the be- lief that the gravel was not. up to standard because of the amount of sand and clay it. contained. He be- lieved that instead of being 60 percent gravel and 40 percent hinder the proportions were re- versed.
He qurstioiied City Engineer H. A. Mosscrvy on the matter and Mr. Mcsservy gave his opinion that the gravel used was the best obtainable on the Island.
Councillor F. J. Storey, chair- man of the Street Committee, op- posed the resolution on the grounds that. since the Council had already approved the work to he done it should be proceeded with. He said that the condition of Union Street was normal in view ofrthe fact that gravellltng was being done and a. heavy rain storm had just. occurred. He ingrccd that perhaps the gravel IHIS not as good as that which can be obtained from a pit in New Brunswick, but did state that the latter would cost . twice as much. In any event. he laid. the gravel used was up to specifica- tions.
A second resolution moved by Councillor MacDonald and Is- condcd by Councillor Storey that a contract be awarded to M. F. Schurman Company for construct- ion or city sidewalks at. a price of

Service Feature Sessions Of Orange Lodge Groups
A joint parade yesterday morn- ing of members of the L.O.A. and L.0.IB.A. Grand Lodges highlight- ed the day's events In the annual gathering being held here this year. The two lodges combined for parade to the War Memorial for the placing of u wreath.
Following this the parade rs- formed and proceeded to zion Presbyterian Church for mem- orial services. The large group of approximately 400 people almost filled the church.
Both groups had previously met in short sessions ut the YMCA. and the Legion Home. The entire afternoon was devoted to a motor tour of the Anne of Green Gables country with a large number of the members taking advantage of
