Another Disastrous Collision.

Lonpon, Oct. 20. The steamer Upupa collided with and sunk the German bark Flantaur, off Beachy Head, on Sunday. Eleven persons were drowned. The captain of the bark has since died. Only two of the crew of the bark survived.

The “Collegium” Again.

Sir,—in your issue of yesterday there appeared a letter written over the signa- ture ** Tom,” in which he gives to the pub lic the result of a critical examination of the Collegium, making «few important discoveries which he readily inserts in his letter. On his looking at the first page he observes, besides clippings from exchanges, nicely executed advertisements which are the work of the printer. Tom, you made a discovery.

This letter of ** Timothy ” brings this light of the nineteenth century back to the days when Addison wrote in the Specta- tor. Was it not fortunate for Joseph that this genius was not in his day subjecting his essaysto ‘*Tom’s” careful per- usal. But it would have been a lucky thing for the Collegiwm if ‘*Tom” were back in those days; then it would enjoy perfect tranquility and not be tormented by being taken so carefully over the coals as it was yesterday.

Now, there comes a suggestion from ‘**Tom.” He thinks the paper might be enlarged a sheet or two. Certainly it should. It would give him a wider field for the wielding of his versatile pen. But, **Tom,” you must not expect too much from those young men. By your letter | should judge you received a good education. When you would finish your studies for the day I think you would not be in much humor to sit down and ‘‘ dash off an editorial.”’ Now, in college there is very little time to issue a paper, and it shows great enterprise on the part of the students in doing what, if | mistake not, their predecessors never ventured at. He concludes his article by hoping to see an- other issue of the Collegium. 1 am sure it will surprise the community if it will keep above ground after being dealt with in such a manner.
