The practice, which was ap- parently employed under the former government, of releasing short term prisoners several days before the expiration of their sen- tence will be discontinued im- mediately.

This information was given to Magistrate K.M. Martin, QC, by the crown prosecutor Gerald R. Foster in City Police Court yes- terday.’ The question was brought up Monday morning by the magistrate when it was re- vealed that one of the prisoners had been released by the jailer

|—fhe situation again arose yes- terday when another prisoner revealed to the magistrate that he had been let out, with about four days to go. Asked by the magistrate how and by what authority he was released the prisoner replied, “‘I don’t know, ‘ was just let out”.

Mr. Foster informed the mag- istrate that he had taken the mat- ter up with Attorney General R. R. Bell, following query from the bench Monday morning. These instructions had also been given

A meeting of the Prince Ed- ward Island Chapter executive of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Of Canada, was held at Prince of Wales College.

This meeting which was open to the public, marked the end of the first phase of the Chap- ters annual campaign for funds which opened with tag days held in this city the middle of September. This collection was handled by the school children who did an excellent job, the total returns having consider- ably exceeded that of last year.
