Pretoria, Aug. 20.—Lord Roberts’ proclamation, after reciting the fact that many have broken the oath to maintain neutrality and that the leniency extended to the burghers is not appreciated, warns all who break their oathe in future that they will be punished by dea'h, imprison» ment or fine.

He declares that all burghers in dis. triers occupied by the British, except these who take the oath, will be regarded as prisoners of war or transported, and that buildings on farms where the memy or his scouts are harbored will be viable to be raized.

Mrs. Isaac Pitblado, of Winnipeg, ss- sisted the choir of the Firat Methodist Church in the morning service yesterday. The selection was Francia Lloyd’s, “The Way of Peace.” In volume and purity Mrs. Pitblado’s voice ranks among the very best contralios who have sung in Charlottetown. She possesses another merit—naturalness, more often written unaffectedness —the surest means of secur- iog at Once the entire attesation and enlisting the sympathy of the audienc-. The soloist of the evening service was Mise Helen Dawson. This talented young vocalist is spendiog her vacation from ber masical studies in Boston, with her father, ©x-Mayor Dawson.
