REGULATIONS to THE ROADS ACT 1965, have been

“drawn up and are now in effect.

Briefly they are written to ensure that trucks carry no more than the legal limit.

Maximum allowable gross weights by axles are now as fol- lows:

Front Axle

10,000 Ibs. (anincrease of 2,000 Ibs.) Single Loaded ‘Axle 18,000 Lbs. Tandem Axle —-—_—_—s 32,000 Lbs.

Under the new Act, a pony axle does not qualify as an axle and trucks so equipped may be licensed not as tandems but as standard trucks.

Since some pony axle trucks have heen registered as tandems, pending preparation of the new regulations, they will be. permitted to continue to operate as tandems until December 31, 1965, in order to give owners time to convert their trucks.

A tandem axle means two axles.not more than 72” ranged that the load carried by. each is approximately équal.
