Within three or four days after the announcement had been nude. that work was about to. start on the T. Eaton building in Charlotte- town. more than 200 applied at the Charlottetow-n National Emp- loyment office for work on the building. Practically all of these were men drawing Unemployment Insurance benefits. The same rush for work was experienced when the High School job was started some weeks ago. Not only were most of the men very anxious for emp- loyment. but some of them were considerably riled because they had

not been selected for one of the limited number of vacancies. This experience disproves the

oft-repeated complaint or the uti- intormed that those drawing bene- fits do not want work. The ti'uth is, that it small percentage of claim- iints are not anxious for casual employment, that is, jobs lasting two or three days. But the over- whelming majority will accept gladly any eniploynicni which promises to last a reasonable length of time. Any benefit claimant it must be remembered. can be dis- qualified from receiving benefits by refusing an offer of suitable cinploym.-zni. It is not practical or course. to offer an out-of-work stcnographcr or ii sales-lady. a job as l domestic, nor a bookkeeper employment as a laborer.

It can be said. that since Un- eniploymcnt Insurance became op- erative in Canada that the emp- loyees' extremity is no longer the cniployers' opportunity to hire men on practically the employers' own terms.

According to gossip among the horsemen, Suinmerside and Char- lottetown share racing dates this year throughout the Summer months. c.W.l.. Provincial Executive Meeting

A meeting of the Provincial Executive of the Catholic Women's League was held Monday afternoon yin the K. of C. Hall.

Meeting was called to order by the president. Mrs. Lorne Noonan and opened with prayer by the Rev. Director G. J. Maccormack. Minutes of previous executive meet- ing and correspondence was read by rec-secy. Miss Iphegenie Arsenault. Treasurer's re- port given by Mrs. Fred Steele showed a satisfactory balance on hand. Conveners present gave satisfactory reports of the differ- ent works accomplished, and inter- esting discussions took place as a result of the different. reports and also from the minutes. Among the items or new busiiieas was a sug- gestion from the president regard- ing the holding of regional meet- ings of several sub-divisions in a convenient area. This matter was fully discussed by the members and with the approval of the Rev. Dir- ector it was decided to hold the first-meeting during the month of May or as soon as road conditions are favorable.

Prizes were voted for St. Dun- stanls University and Prince of Wales College and it was also decided to donate two special prizes for Christian Doctrine in sermon exams, one at which is to be given to pupil making highest marks in convent schools and one for pupil making highest marks in public schools.

Father Maccormack gave an in- structive address. in which he stressed particularly increased membership and study clubs, and a comprehensive study of the new constitution.
