DISCO DAMAGES

(ZNS—CUP) - The wide- spread popularity of

disco dancing is allegedly resulting in a rash of ailments whidi are dis— abling thousands of disco oatrms.

A growing nunber of podiatrists have expressed ooncem about the possib- ility of permanent foot damage suffered by women who frequent discos. According to those foot specialists, many women run the risk of dironic foot problem because they insist on wearing platform shoes or spiked heels while dancing.

Other medical authori— ties have expressed ccncem about the possib- ility of hearing damage by disco-goers because of the excessive noise levels at many clubs. Disco D—J's as well as patrons have suffered long- term hearing loss, an ailment widely referred to as "disco ear."

Now, some plastic surgeons claim their business is cm the upming because of an alleged ' fondness for cocaine among a sizeable minority of . disco enthusiasts. "Bill- board" magazine claiirs that a number of plastic Surgems are encountering Cases of what might be called "disco nose". Sure coke sniffers are alleged- ly requiring plastic Surgery to correct nasal Problems caused by excessive use of the drug.

The latest medical Problem to crop up stems from the growing popularity of disco roller-skating. Che roller rink owner in Ottawa, recently found it necessary to spend $2,500 on first aid equipment t0 treat cases of "disco- btilt ," and other skating- related injuries.

The case of Peter Kc» Chang versus the Depart- nent of Inmigratim has finally come to a happy conclusion. The Saint Mary's University student no lmger faces any threat of forced departure fran Canada for ~"working" in his sister's take-out restaurant.

Chang, a visa student, had been ordered out of the country by Novenber

4 by the Nova Scotia adjudicator for the federal Department of Immigration. He had been charged with violating his visa status by selling 15 cents worth of candy to children.

Chang was in his sister's store only because a regular employee failed to arrive and the store had to be opened to allow a milk delivery. After Chang opened the store, two youngsters entered, placed

15 cents on the counter, and took sane candy. Chang's date of departure was extended to December 31 and then his case was taken to the Federal Court. In light Of a similar case in Ontario where a Greek student had a ruling in his favor, the Department of Justice supported Chang's request to quash the departure orde.‘ They agreed Chang was not "working" but had nerely helped his sister.
