“Trve Bice,” a drama of the Cuban- Spanish war was presented by the Frankie Carpenter Company last evening before a good-sized andience. The play abounds in dramatic climaxes and stveral curtain calls were received. The comedy scenes of Miss Frankie and Mr. Gracy were well received, Miss Frankie appearing as Kater- ina Krousemier, a German emigrant girl. She was irrcsistably funny, her German song and dance in the second act being especially good. The supporting company js very strong and well sustained the differ- ent characters intrusted to their care. This evening as a special feature, Miss Frankie will repeat her beautiful kaleides- cope dance. A special matinee for ladies and children is announced for Saturday afternoon to which the admission will be ouly 10 cents to all parts of the house.

A Narrow Escare.—Two young men named Houston, sons of Mr. James Houston the well-known tinsmith aud plumber, had narrow essape from death yesterday afternoon. It seems that the two men were workirg in one of the small hermnetically-sealed compartments of the new pork-packing establishment, doing some soldering, when they were overcome either by the fumes of the charcoal in the fire-pot or the acid they were using, and rendered unconscious. When discovered one of the men was almost dead, his body being rigid and hie teeth set, and the other was frothing freely at the mouth. Dr. Beer was summoned and did every- thing in his power for the unfortunate men. About six o’clock they were taken to the Prince Edward Isiand Hospital where the work of resuscitation was continued. Today they are reported doing fine and will pro- bably be removed to their home this

evening.
