An Eccentric Dundee Minister.

After ceasing to be minister of that congregation, he was in the habit of itinersting through Scotland, anc preaching in the halls, more especially those belonging to Mason supporting himself by collections at the door. He frequently repaired to the town where he furmerly ministered. He had often crowded audiences, attracted by the quaint, humorous illastrations which he delighted toindulge io. On one oecasion, when preaching in a small hallin Dundee, the Rev. Dr. Peters, ene of the ministers of the Established Church, was desirous of hearing him, but at the same time wished todo so unobserved and attempted to screen himself from the notice of the audience by standing behind the door. The pre- caution, however, was unavailing. Theeye ofthe preacher detected his presence ;and the congregation ,were apprised of the fact by a supplication on behalf of “Thy reverend servant behind the door.”

An Adventurous Voyage by Por-

tuguese.

Two Portuguese explorers,who start- ed last year for a trip across Africa, have reached the Cape after some of those pleasant adventures which are so dear to the bosom of the explorer. Leaving Mossamedes in March, 1884, with an escort of 120 men recruited along the coast between that place and St. Paulde Loanda, they reached Quil- limane, upon the eastern coast, to the south of Mozampique, in May, 1885, after haviug discovered the watershed wheace the rivers of Central Africa flow north and east towards the sea. They travelled over 4,500 miles of terrritory of which 3,000 were totally unknown, and they dis- covered the sources of the Lualada, an affluent of the Congo, which has heen so frequently referred to in recent geographical discussions, They also came upon 4 region rich in copper, this being the district of Yaranganga,s'tuat- ed between the Lualaba and the Lua- pala.
